چکیده

A 40-km length of optical f iber whose group-velocity dispersion decreases exponentially along its length has been fabricated. We experimentally compare the propagation of picosecond solitons through the dispersiondecreasing fiber with that through a constant-dispersion fiber of the same path-averaged dispersion. For a wide range of input powers, the output pulse widths of the dispersion-decreasing fiber are found to be as short as the input pulse widths, whereas the output pulse widths of the constant-dispersion fiber are signif icantly larger. Numerical simulations of the experiment are performed and are in good agreement with the experimental results.  1995 Optical Society of America

Ultrashort soliton generation through higher-order soliton compression in a nonlinear optical loop mirror constructed from dispersion-decreasing fiber

A novel technique to generate ultrashort fundamental solitons is proposed and demonstrated numerically. The technique utilizes both the multisoliton pulse-compression effect and the switching characteristics of a nonlinear optical loop mirror constructed from dispersion-decreasing fiber. We show that, in contrast to the conventional soliton-effect pulse compression in which compressed pulses ar...

Timing jitter of ultrashort solitons in high-speed communication systems. I. General formulation and application to dispersion-decreasing fibers

By using adiabatic perturbation theory, we calculate the timing jitter generated by fluctuations in soliton amplitude, frequency, and position that are induced by the amplifiers noise in high-speed soliton communication systems. The analysis is applied to dispersion-tailored fibers which, in contrast with conventional constantdispersion fibers, allow ultrashort solitons (width , 10 ps) to propa...

Akhmediev breathers, Kuznetsov–Ma solitons and rogue waves in a dispersion varying optical fiber

Dispersion varying fibres have applications in optical pulse compression techniques. We investigate Akhmediev breathers, Kuznetsov–Ma (KM) solitons and optical rogue waves in a dispersion varying optical fibre based on a variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Analytical solutions in the forms of Akhmediev breathers, KM solitons and rogue waves up to the second order of that equati...

Timing jitter analysis for optical communication systems using ultrashort solitons and dispersion-decreasing fibers

We use adiabatic perturbation theory to calculate the timing jitter induced by fluctuations in solitons amplitude, frequency and position due to amplifiers noise when ultrashort solitons ( ~ ! ps) are propagated in dispersion-decreasing fibers. The result is applied to a high-speed soliton communication system with amplifiers spacing of 50-100 km. We show that the transition from a regime where...

Simulation of Single - Channel Optical Systems at 100 Gb / s

With the help of a computer simulation, we have investigated the conditions under which the transmission of light pulses through optical fibers may be possible over thousands of kilometers at a bit rate of 100 Gb/s. Employing an amplifier spacing of only 20 km, nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), and dispersion-managed solitons (DMS’s) may all be useful provided that certain additiona...
